Should You Renegotiate Your Mortgage? |

The prime interest rate has dropped another 5 basis points to an incredibly low interest rate of 2.50%. Are you thinking now that the fixed interest rate we locked into a few years ago is much too high, should we renegotiate our mortgage? Good question! 
If or when you decide to break your fixed rate mortgage, the lender has the right to choose the type of pre-payment penalty calculation. The calculation is the greater of three months' interest or interest rate differential.
